We are a community-based tone bell choir and artists' collective focused on ringing joy and building community. We use a technique for bell ringing that promises success for the non-music reader, yet still can challenge the advanced musician.
Are you interested in making beautiful music together? Are you open to learning something new? Do you want to sound great and have fun? Maureen's Bells Artists' Collective is waiting for you!
We welcome new ringers every time because we're an ad hoc collective. We also have several volunteer jobs available including set up/clean up, outreach/community building, and music marking.
Maureen's Bells is great for corporate team building, birthday parties, or community groups who are looking for a fun musical experience. Please contact us for details.
Maureen Martello (1922-2016), sang all day long and danced down the hallways even in her 94th year. Even in her final years when she had dementia she communicated through music and was emotionally moved by music.
Maureen's Bells is a community tone bell choir that makes beautiful music using a 5-octave set of Suzuki Tone Chimes. The bells were purchased thanks to a gift from Maureen.
Maureen's daughter Diane Martello founded Maureen's Bells in 2016 to bring joy to people 9 to 90. Over a 32 year career as a music teacher Diane developed a technique for teaching bells that promises immediate success for the non-music reader yet still poses an interesting challenge for advanced musicians.
Dylann McLean joined Maureen's Bells as manager in 2016. Throughout her career she has gained experience in logistics, event planning, production, and fundraising, all of which contribute to the success of Maureen's Bells as an artists' collective.
Maureen's Bells Artists' Collective continued to grow through the 2016-2017 season. In 2018, we formed a Board of Directors and adopted a constitution. Melanie Tait joined the Board as a member at large/ director and continues to help guide our activities.
The ad hoc collective includes 8-28 community members at any given ring. The group has a regular core of ringers and welcomes new people every time. Everyone comes together to ring the bells in a central location. The collective always includes complete novices and advanced musicians.
Our repertoire ranges from Bach to Broadway and includes traditional songs that Maureen loved to sing.
